Pics from the week

 Our golf cart adventure

The girls in my zone... aren't there such cute girls? I absolutely love it. Please notice Heather Bair in there! I'm so glad I get to see her all the time. There is also a girl who used to date Greg Moses... random
These are some of our foreign friends that left this week... They were from Brasil and helped us with Portugues and we helped them with English... they would say some of the funniest crap.
Selfie Sunday??? Why not? We're expected to be weird in the MTC... my last temple walk with my homeslice!

This is Elder Manu from Tonga... probably the funniest person I have ever met. I think he knows more english than he lets on though.

Me and Ace Face, I was seriously so pumped!

 The Ward girls and I

Elder Morely and I... headed to Uganda!
My district before Sister Falmo and Elder Edwards left... Elder Knowles on the far left is the one that is going to run for office with me one day. Our teacher is on the far right, Sister Petitta.
My new companion Sister Alzate... I'm going to Columbia with her one day.
Thank you Blythe! Cutest package ever!

Saddest Week Thus Far

And Blythe and Cheyna for the win!!!!
I seriously can't tell you guys thank you enough for the packages, they make my life! Chey, I may or may not have slammed that jerky within 20 minutes... tell Garrison good job.

Okay Sagan wants me to write a contraction for calling her out on the Portugues thing last week, she claimed she was making a joke. Well if you are making a joke, make it funny Sag. Haha jk

This week was so sad because, Sister Faldmo and Elder Edwards left me to go to the Brasil MTC. DB left me and so did all my Poly friends... I'm trying to adjust to life without seeing Elder Blake everyday haha it is harder than you may imagine!

Brooke, when you come to the MTC play volleyball! I seriously love playing here because there are some legit elders and it's a party. Congrats on the call you will love it!

So on Sunday, my district decided to sing in sacrament meeting til we meet again since so many missionaries were leaving... we decided this on Saturday, none of us have any music ability and we tried to sing parts... bad idea. EPIC FAIL. Our branch was literally LAUGHING as we sang it was that bad. At least you could feel our testimonies?

Oh if anyone who reads this loves me they will send me a little laser. You know just one of those little key chain cheap ones? I would seriously be in debt to you forever... don't get any ideas about what it's for, no it will not get me kicked out of the mtc... just help keep me entertained ;) please oh please!

On Sunday we get to go on a temple walk for an hour on the way back I see these two blonde girls and was like where are those sisters name tags? tsk tsk. Well it was Makenzie... I know I spelled that wrong, and Katrissa Ward! Ah so cool!

As i'm almost back I hear someone yell, Sister Shumway well I turn around and what do I find... ASA!!!! Oh my goodness Elder Blake and I had been trying to find him since Wednesday! I even went to the front desk and asked for his meal times (I had to explain he was my cousin first haha) I finally got to see him and it was so awesome, he looked so good! I saw him again yesterday too... I love it! Like that seriously was the greatest two moments of the MTC.... sorry DB ;)

I also saw JJ Morely at the temple... that was cool, I haven't seen him since high school so I'm way glad he recognized me and came and talked to me.

Just in case some of you are worried, I am most definitely keeping it real up in herrrre. On Sunday night I went on a little adventure with my New Zealand friend (she also left me this week)... I won't say too much so that my e-mail can't be held against me haha but it was way fun and i will send some pics.

On Tuesday guess who our devotional speaker was? Neil L. Anderson! I have been here three weeks and already heard from two apostles! That never happens how lucky am i?! The Lord knows I need some serious preaching to!
He talked about love and sacrifice, which could not be more perfect. I feel like I have sacrificed a lot, caffeine, friends, the office, me bed, my naps haha but those aren't real sacrifices and he put me in my place. It was way good.

For some reason, my district got shoved down into the corner of our building away from all the Portugues speakers. Instead we are with all the foreigners learning english... oh boy you can only imagine. It is the most hilarious thing ever! I feel like i'm learning more Spanish, French and Dutch trying to communicate with all my friends there. There is one Elder, Elder Manu who is from Tonga that is seriously our best friend he is hilarious! He says he is playing football at BYU after his mission, but he likes to mess with us so I don't know if that's true or not.
A lot of them help us with our Portugues too, they are seriously the funniest people. Most of the Elders just try to pick up girls because they want to marry an American. It's so bad but it's entertaining to watch.

So I am now in a threesome because Sister Alzate, who was Sister Faldmo's companion was added to our companionship. She is awesome and is fluent in Spanish because her family is from Columbia and she goes there all the time. She is so patient and helps me a ton I seriously love her.

Each district has two teachers, well one of our teachers left Saturday so we got a new one. Anyways when we were teaching him, and he was pretending to be an investigator I could NOT understand him! I guess I haven't gotten used to his accent yet. So I am sitting there not understanding one thing, and saying things that I didn't know if they applied or not and finally me, sister Alzate and our teacher just busted up laughing. I was honestly dying it was so bad. I'm glad our teacher has a sense of humor though and wasn't mad that I totally took the spirit from the room.

Out of all the pictures Chey and Ays sent me my favorites are the ones of Garrison and Denalli... HAHA oh how I got a kick out of those!

Dad Mom, I need to hear more about what is going on with Greater Canyonlands... Dad said it was probably going to happen. Call up Hatch's office and get John Tanner on the phone and get something happening... i'm going crazy in here not knowing what is happening!

How is Bobby doing? I want to hear about his crazy mission. Also, more about Bry and her craziness.

Mom you know those fatheads well if you don't ask Callie about them Barkley has one of himself... he would.
I think we should get one of me and put it in Bry's room so she doesn't forget me haha psych that would freak her out.

The language is getting better everyday. We are only allowed to speak English at lunch and dinner and gym so that's been helping a lot.

Mom, Jace wanted to know some Portugues words so tell him Otimo (O-CHEE-MO) means like awesome or great. and Muito legal means like way legit. Oi, is hey.

Food well, oh you guys would be in heaven, there is wrap bar here that is the bomb. I get a spinach salad with like chicken, tomatoes, sprouts and carrots on it with poppy seed dressing that is the bomb.com. There is also yogurt parfaits everyday, the big ones like Mcdonalds used to have. When I eat the cooked food it seriously messes with my stomach.

Sister Olander says I dance like Generra... Generra must be a freaking good dancer then ;) haha

Oh my greatest quote ever this week was on Sunday at the fireside when it was PACKED... it took us forever to make our way to the elders in our district. We finally made it and the elders were like woah that took you so long... My reply was, "When did people stop understanding the phrase get the heck out of my way?!" Obviously changed to make it missionary appropriate. If you are not dying of laughter right now then you need to go watch Friends and become cooler.

I can't really think of what else to tell you I am more than half way done. I will get my re-assignment in two weeks and depending on where I go I could leave that Saturday... crazy crazy. It freaks me out to think I might be teaching in English since I haven't taught in English yet!!! I just remind myself it doesn't matter where I go, I will love the people and sacrifice whatever I need to no matter what just like Elder Anderson said...

Okay well God Speed... Be good, I love you and goodbye! Peace out my homies!

Pictures Week 2

This pic is for mom, we got AWESOME cleaning inspection, proof that I am a good cleaner haha. Yeah Sister Faldmo totally photo bombing this pic.
This protester was out by the temple when the missionaries were doing their Sunday temple walk just yelling at the top of his lungs...Monday and Tuesday he went across the street from the MTC...he must be threatened by teenagers
Me, Sister Faldmo, Sister Alzate (companions) and Sister Clay, my companion
 Sister Faldmo
Thanks mom for the package, the  Elders in my district were pretty shocked when I pulled out the prenatals.
Thanks Blythe, Niki and the Miles for the packages, DC Simone is coming back because of all these tasty treats!
After we found out that two people got their visas

Week 2

When I'm gone, when I'm gooone
You're gonna miss me when i'm gone.
You're gonna miss me when i'm here,
you're gonna miss me when i'm there,
you're gonna miss me when i'm gone.

Okay I don't even know if those are the right lyrics but they have been stuck in my head all week... kind of fitting right? anyway, for anyone who knows what i'm talking about, please just go and watch Pitch Perfect for me RIGHT NOW!

Okay a big shout out to Niki and Ladd and the Miles this week for the packages! I am definitely feeling the love!

Also, thank you Stacey, Kristy and Kelsey for sending me the dearelders... I LOVE them! I love hearing about Ons and Kels... go tear up Cedar even without me!
So I lost my journal, well I left it in the laundry room and nobody turned it into the lost and found! Some missionaries are dying of laughter right now because i'm pretty dang funny in my journal, so I think they just kept it so they can be entertained! But I really am sad about it so mom, keep my letters so that I remember my first week and a half in this prison.

P-day's are awesome... we go to the temple and it's super cool going as a district. At first, kind of weird and awkward because it's a bunch of crazy teenagers in there and immature elders but it helps put things in perspective when we come back to study.

On Sunday guess who spoke to the whole MTC? Vai Sikahema! Yep, that's right and he served the 18 month misison like you dad. He said his sons always give him crap and say that he served one of those sissy girl missions. His response is always, "it takes us 18 months what it takes you to do in 2 years"... preach.

Afterwards there was like a million and a half missionaries trying to talk to him saying, oh I played football, or I know so and so trying to make connections with him and crowding him like he had robbed a store. Well I hate to say it but I was one of those fools... #sorrynotsorry I had a legit reason though I think. Anyways dad, he said to tell you and mom hi. He said the scariest thing still he ever has done was fly with grandpa. It was funny. He talked to more for a long time asking all about our fam and whatnot..

PS he said that Robby Boscoes son is here in the MTC and another starter for the national championship team but it was some poly name and I can't remember it, but his daughter is here...represent.

On Sunday in Relief Society we took a huge picture for the time capsule because this is like the biggest relief society ever. Well anyways because there were SO many of us the guy had to do a bunch of different shots and it took forever. He said, hold really still or else it will be blurry. So everyone is frozen for a long time AND it is dead silent. He is taking the last couple of shots and yes, out comes one of moms GINORMOUS, ugly

sneezes that I inherited and everyone just busts up laughing... i'm the girl that ruined the big picture... word.

So, Brooke, Lexus, Heidi... anyone who is planning on serving missions, don't wear anything cheetah print or that has sequins because your district will tease you relentlessly. No, i'm jk rock it. The elders in my district are constantly making fun of Sister Faldmo and I even though they are not funny at all... they are like Ladd.

Mama, Elder Jacobsen from Oklahoma is in my zone so I see him lots and we have talked about the Graves.
Remember how every sister in the MTC knows me as the girl who sneezed and ruined the picture? Well if that's not embarrassing enough it gets worse... At lunch the next day I was over talking to DB (I see him at least once a day) and I start saying bye so I start walking backwards to turn around and a lady was pushing a cart with all the salad dressing in big tubs. Yeah, I tripped over it, falling to the ground and knocking the salad dressing over with it. It was glorious.

Okay God has a sense of humor, a very funny one actually. On Tuesday we were teaching two investigators, (No Sagan, they are not real investigators, they are our teachers pretending to be). Anyway, we taught one in the morning and one in the afternoon and we were teaching them basically the exact same thing. The morning lesson went awesome! I didn't use any notes and I could remember SO much, it was great... Well pride got the best of me and I thought, "I don't need to study more for our afternoon lesson, I'm teaching the EXACT same lesson" Yeah and so God was thinking, "HAHA i'll show you"... Long story short, I couldn't remember any portuguese, not even to pray! It was such an awful lesson. So I will not make that mistake agian.

I get up at 6:30 (i've got the good cafeteria schedule)
breakfast at 7:15
personal study at 7:45
Classroom instructi0n with our teacher from 9-12
lunch at 12
computer language study from 12:45-1:45
teacher instruction from 2-5
dinner at 5
gym at like 6:30-7:20
back in the classroom at 8
personal/language study until 9

I also think we are the only district that follows the rule about not getting mail until9:30... oh wells exact obedience right?

P-day, Sundays and service day are obviously different and oh so awesome. My service day is Tuesday morning which is great because Tuesday is when we have a HUGE devotional with everyone so that day flies by!

This Tuesday we had Richard J. Maynes who is in the presidency of the seventy and his wife.
His wife said, have "More faith than fear" I am totally living by this while I try not to stress about my visa...

Oh remember how God has a sense of humor... well this was also hilarious. Not for me, but i'm sure God was busting a gut.

Sister Faldmo, who isn't my companion but is like the most awesome girl and we have gotten along so well from the beginning and have SO much fun together. I would not be surviving without her. Well on Thursday night we said we were going to have EXACT obedience, like lights out at 10:30on the dot and we are OUT of bed at 6:30or earlier. Well we were awesome about lights out... however in the morning Sister Faldmo was out of bed right when she was supposed to. I on the other hand, rolled outat 6:33.
.............She got her visa that day, I didn't. She will now be leaving me on Tuesday to go to the Brasil CTM... I am devastated for myself but happy for her. I will mis her SOO much. She is also going to Santa Maria so i'm hoping I get my visa so I can see her again. I will be getting out of bed at 6:25from now on haha.

Kelli, you asked about flirting in the MTC well here is more about what I think... So a lot of the elders literally just BARELY turned 18 so maturity level... not so high haha. Anyways, they accuse sisters of flirting all the time if you are nice to them, here's an example...

On Sunday, Devin Lyman comes and finds me at dinner to say bye, since he was headed to Mexico on Tuesday or Monday, with him comes Elder Lefever (something like that) who is from Tropic and knows all our cousins. So i'm at dinner talking to them for a while wishing Devin luck and everything. After I get done chatting, I turn back around to my district and the elders in my district jump down my throatt for flirting with the Elder Lyman. I then look at them and say, that was my cousin... The elders then tell me, oh then that's okay. Some people's children... haha jk I love the elders in my zone but yeah, there is still such an age difference I don't think it's a problem, but then again an elder might say something different.

So here are some of my last thoughts. In a lot of talks this week they have mentioned stuff about us being the noble and great ones  mentioned in the scriptures... this is so true. God held all of this for this dispensation, why? What are we doing to prove ourselves? Prophets of old knew they were going to be on the losing team, they knew what they were getting themselves into. So why did God save all of us for this time, when we know we are going to be on the winning team? Such a cool thought to think we were held for this time for a very specific purpose.

Also, if anyone has ten minutes of time go to mormonchannel.org and go to mormon messages watch the power of scripture I think it's called. I love this one. I know I have definitely taken the scriptures for granted when people have been killed for them.

Anyways, thank you all for letters, packages and support. I truly do love being a missionary. We continue to have more and more fun in this place! I'll attach pics to another e-mail, Ays forward this around and also, post on my FB please and thank you.

Week 1 Pictures

Here are most of the pics Simone sent Week 1.  They don't get the captions she sent cause she sent them a dumb way and they're all mixed up ha so next week they should have captions on them!

Week 1-MTC

I finally have p-day! YAY!

Anyways, here is a run down and I will send pics when I get to a computer that allows me to send them.

So, the first few days were confusing, a blur but chill. I didn't hate life and I didn't love it, I'll be honest. My companion likes to give hugs... score. The day I came in was a record breaking day with 900 new missionaries! One of the first people I saw was DB, it was so great!

It's true when people say make it to Sunday because Sundays are legit. The Primary General President spoke to us during relief society, it was the biggest relief society every probably with almost 1,000 women!

So I love my district, they are awesome and we all get along so well. Elder Knowles, is my little political buddy and we talk politics for as long as we can, he is going to run  for office one day and I am going to run his campaign. He also asked me one day where you put the stamp on the letter, his companion, Elder Nash informed me that you put it on the left corner... poor elders.

Elder Nash and my district had me going for like three days that his uncle is Steve Nash, I was pumped... they know call my Sister Gullible.

Dad, I snort... a lot. And I live off of the pop in the cafeteria. Imagine how much more productive I would be though if they actually let us have caffeine?? A sister in my district had to go off campus for a doctors appointment and brought back diet coke... it was like I was a crack addict that had been in rehab and a bag of crack had just been placed in front of me. Is that okay for a missionary to say? Whatever I will say it anyway.

At the devotional on Tuesday night, an Elder behind me was like Sister Shumway where are you from? Figuring he saw Shumway and had played sports he recognized the name. When I said Utah he was like uhhh oh nevermind you look exactly like someone I know. So I asked, where he was from and he said Snowflake Arizona. So I told them how I know the Blacks and whatnot and he said he is best friends with Dani... an Elder Solomom, connections everywhere.

I also met another Elder Shumway who is from St. Louis and comes from Charles. Was it Louisa who hit the bear with the frying pan? Well whichever wife that was that is the one he comes from. He told me a lot of cool stories about Charles that I didn't know, or just didn't listen to when someone else told me.

Okay, the other day our district got into this huge debate and had a massive draft for the Mormon Dream Team. There were ten spots, I was pushing for Captain Moroni to be #1 and Gideon to be above Ammon... anyways it was such a huge debate we had to make different categories. so like top warrior, leaders, etc. I will send another email with pics of it. We decided later it probably isn't appropriate to rank prophets... oh what we do in the MTC for fun.

Elder Knowles, also one day decided to draw a picture of me on the chalkboard as Sister Mowgli... awesome. I will send a pic of that too.

So class... Portugues is way hard and its hard not to get frustrated. The first two lessons I taught in Portugues I basically just read a script. It was bad, way bad. So the third lesson I told Sister Clay, my companion that we were NOT taking in notes, that we had to study hard and rely on the spirit. I seriously don't know what I said, don't know what the investigator said and made A LOT of arm motions, but somehow he understood me. He prayed, told us he would marry his "wife" so that he could get baptized... three cheers for the spirit. Either that, or he just felt bad for me making a fool out of myself. We start teaching our next investigator on Monday so hopefully my Portugues gets better by then.

Mom, Sister Faldmo is the one that Cort found for me... she is the BOMB! I love her so much! The first night, we went to shower and we hear opera singing from the shower, like a lot of it. She looks back at me and says, "is this real life" yes, unfortunately it is. But no, we roll with it and just laugh A LOT!

Our teachers only speak Portugues to us so she and I don't understand crap, since most of our class is fluent in Spanish and understand a lot, we just laugh... she reminds me so much of Sarah Edwards from DC, I love it.

Sister Olander, the one that played with G says I remind her a lot of Generra because I love sparkley things haha oh yes I do!

The Elders make fun of my for wearing scarfs in August, for always having sparkley hair ties and so much more, I get called Sister Mowgli a lot as well.

Kelli, in my district I don't think there is flirting because the sisters are older than the elders so they're like your little brothers. My companion and I are the only 19 year olds. The rest are 21 or older and most of the Elders like just barely turned 18.

I see DB EVERY day of my life, I love it and we talk about Blanding, everyone here has heard about Blanding of course... I saw Devin my second day and then again yesterday in the bookstore. I asked him about Mav because he saw him a lot. I asked how his spanish was and Devin said, "I think Mav could speak Spanish better than he could speak English"... haha i'll take that as a good thing?

Guess who also just got to the MTC? Heather from DC that I lived with! She is in my zone and her classroom is just above mine so I get to see her everyday! It is so nice to see a familiar face!!!!

On Tuesday for devotional, guess who spoke? Richard G. Scott! My first devotional and its an apostle! It was epic and said just what I needed to hear. He said if you're learning a language don't stress, that God called you for a reason to learn that language. My favorite quote was, "God knows who you are, knows what you need, and knows what you can become." throughout the whole devotional though he was very emotional and half way through he stopped and said, "i am very emotional tongight and I want to tell you all why. As many of you know my sweet wife passed away many years ago. Tonight I know that our Lord has let her be with me and I feel her presence." I loved it. As he was walking out of the building he stopped and yelled, Be good, I love you, goodnight! He is the man.

So here is another funny story, the other day we were all showering after gym and my companion kicked the door stop out as she left our room... so I get done showering and head back to the room to find that it was locked. Of course none of us took our keys to the shower. It was the middle of the day so everyone was in class. I am running around the building in my robe trying to find anyone to help us because we were going to be SO late. We couldn't leave the building because no on had clothers, it was bad, very bad. Finally I saw some sisters and like chased them down to go get us a key. It was fabulous.

So this e-mail is long because I haven't been able to e-mail yet, a lot will be shorter I'm sure. Please dearelder me it sucks when you don't get letters at the end of the day, (I'm pretty sure my district is the only one that keeps the rule of opening the mail at 9:30, hey blessings for exact obedience? I can only hope.)

The hardest part I think about being in the MTC is I realized some crazy things could be going on in the world and I would have no idea! So a daily or weekly update on what is going on in our government and world news would be greatly appreciated!

Denalli: We make fun of the four-squarers, but I am going to try to take a pic of it one of these days... PS I think its hilarious Denalli was one of the first e-mails I get haha. Thank you.

Cheyna: You have authority to take any of my clothes from anyone because you send me dear elders. I only get to email once a week and don't have a lot of time so yeah... I prefer dearelders. I don't even care to get hand written letters, I would WAY rather have a short dearelder each day haha.

Sagas: I don't care what colors you send I will just appreciate anything.

Garrison: I hope Bry still calls you that, and you know that jerkey you had in that drawer in your kitchen? Yeah if you still have that you should send it to me.

Kimmy: I think I am learning the language faster than you would be ;) and I haven't cried or been sad once, I legitimately like it here.

Mom: If you write in cursive anymore I am not writing you. I can't read it so don't bother. hahaha just dearelder me if you can't write normally. PS send me my white, sparkley oxfords. They should just be in my closet.

Dad: good luck with the pop thing

Nate: Heard you were the only one that noticed Kelli changed her hair? HAHAHAHA that gave me a good laugh, thanks for sharing ke ke

Blythe: You are the bomb! Thank you so much for the greenie package, you need treats during class to stay awake, I get in trouble for falling asleep a lot. so thank you!!!

PS I have found ways to take two naps already without breaking any rules... boom.

Everyone's favorite, Sister Shumway

There and back again... by Bilbo Baggins

Psych, I wish I was as cool as Bilbo.

Anyways this is it, Aysia will be posting my letters to this blog. Hopefully she is consistent and doesn't use Delbert (what I call the fetus inside of her) as an excuse of why she can't... jk Ays I trust ya, maybe.

Okay I'm off to the Provo MTC, fingers crossed I get my visa soon!!! dearelder.com me people to help keep me sane while I am in the missionary prison! No, I promise I am excited to go serve and do some serious work!

God speed homies!!!
